Camera Phone!
For my formative assignment me and my group have to produce a short film. Alice has composed the story called Silenced which will shed light on the horrors of technology that we will undoubtedly face and also face currently to a certain extent.
The basic concept of the film is that in the future everyone has lost the skill of speech because it has become redundant through the overuse of phones as a means of communication. The film focuses on two characters who are going a date. They meet at a restaurant yet only communicate across the table on they're phones. The man longs for human communication, a touch or a human sound until eventually he has enough. He then runs outside and smashes the phone on the ground and screams but no-one can hear him because they are so encapsulated by their devices. He rediscovers his language and is no longer trapped and this comes to the end of the film.
As the camera man it is my role to advise the director (Alice) on the ways that it should be shot. I have come up with the idea of it being shot hand held style much like The Blair Witch Project. With films like these the idea is that the characters are consciously filming what they want to record so the characters eyes are in essence the camera lense. With our film however i want the camera to embody the phone so that the character is being viewed by it yet unaware of its filming. This way it is on the characters person at all times and there's no way that they can escape from its eye especially in this dystopian near future of mass fixation on technology. This should emphasise its control over them almost like they are being controlled or trapped by it.

In Peep show the camera acts as the characters eyes, dialogue between characters is filmed by shifting from one characters eyes when the other's speaking and vice versa.
