Steve Jobs
With the film 'Steve Jobs' in the cinema alongside another film 'Tangerine' two films engulfed in the practical use of different technology i thought i would say a little something about them and how they relate to our film.
'Steve Jobs' documents the life of the Apple founder through an almost play-like form. Each Act if you will is set backstage to an announcement of one of his new products. I thought it was relevant to the short film because of the way it uses different film camera's for each 'Act'. As in one Act may be set in the 1980's and the next in the 1990's in each of them it uses the film camera of that time.
This is a prime example of the style of filming not only acts as a Aesthetic to characters emotion or pace of a scene but also as a contextual reference to a tool which was used at this moment in time. The film can in the style that it is filmed put us in a moment but also in what it is filmed on. For 'Silenced' this is the key with the phone camera because through our cultural knowledge we identify with the phone in a way that someone 20 years ago would not. This not only highlights the severity of the issue for us but also shows how quickly and dangerously things have changed and how close/current this harsh future is.
