180 degree rule and how i need to improve
Today we had a practical where we rehearsed our filming by laying out our restaurant scene in the studio. It was my responsibility to aim the camera. Our establishing shot was a wide angle shot of the girl sitting at the table with the other seat and door in view. This showed how the girl was waiting for someone. The door draws the viewers attention so they expect someone to come in. The second shot was of the man coming in and sitting down at the table which we had a shot of from the exact side view of the two so that they are mutually meeting each other, no-ones above the other. We finished there but when the two are conversing we would apply the 180 degree rule which i need to pay attention to especially because in the morning we had a feedback for a practical film we made where we didn't follow this rule well.
What we learned from this filming practise was the importance of communication. The director (Alice) needed to be slightly more prompt on telling me what to do but i also needed to be quicker at setting up the camera position. Finally the flaw of mine was that i used the wrong lense I should of used a closer wider, lense because with the one i had i had to move the camera very far across the room and this was impractical. Perhaps i should of used a 35mm instead.
